It all started when…

UCSJ together with Center for Civil Liberties and Institute for Religious Freedom initiated the launch of dialogue among representatives of civil society, confessions, academicians, and activists on observing religious freedom in Ukraine. During commencing session held on April 16, 2019 in Kyiv, Ukraine dedicated to religious freedom in the Ukrainian territories of Crimea and Donbas occupied by Russian Federation, 70 participants of the Roundtable approved the Resolution that constitutes such a dialogue on a regular basis between representatives of different denominations and human rights and non-governmental organizations that support the importance of religious freedom, with the involvement of scientists, experts and representatives of the national authorities and local government bodies.

On May 14, 2019 Ukrainian co-founders of the Roundtable held press-conference announcing the launch of the Roundtable work and on May 31, 2019 released the Report on Establishing Religious Freedom Roundtable in Ukraine.

UCSJ will assist the process of continuous dialogue on freedom of religion in Ukraine and closely follow the development of this initiative. Ukrainian Roundtable is now the part of the global process of the International Religious Freedom Roundtable.

On July 25, 2019 the second meeting of the Roundtable took place in Kyiv dedicated to “Joint Efforts of the Civil Society to Release Citizens of Ukraine Unlawfully Deprived of Liberty in Russia, the Occupied Crimea and Donbas.”

In September 2019 Roundtable organizers initiated the side-event on the margins of the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting OSCE devoted to Religious freedom in the Ukrainian territories of Crimea and Donbas occupied by Russian Federation.

UCSJ is proud to be part of this developing initiative in Ukraine.
